Treasure in Timbuktu

Library of Timbuktu contains thousands and thousands of manuscripts fading away. The town had a university in the middle ages which boasted 20000 students. And for some reason the conservation efforts are starting now rather than decades ago. And it seems there's much unstudied by western historians there, too. What a treasure.
