I hate strawmen devil's advocacy

I hate it when people deliberately do a bad job of acting as devil's advocates. I especially hate it in a context when I'm trying to talk about research issues, and people invent straw men as arguments against mine. It not only is frustrating, but also makes them look stupid. I can't imagine why one would want to do that. In a research discussion, I very much value people who can take a look at my ideas, and arguments and point the actual flaws in them. Or to take those ideas and develop them further, or broaden their scope to things I had not considered.
